I don't want to start taking prescription medications for this. Instead, I'm looking for some lifestyle changes or natural solutions.

Does glucosamine help alleviate back pain caused by osteoarthritis? Most pain relief creams, etc. target the muscles, rather than the nerves that are affected by osteoarthritis. I have heard that glucosamine may be helpful in treating arthritis. I am not looking for a cure, just pain relief. I am currently taking high doses of Ibuprofen, which can cause liver damage. I would rather take something that targets the source of the problem. Has anyone taken glucosamine and had positive results for back pain relief?
Ways to relieve osteoarthritis pain? Does anyone else have this disease/condition. My back hurts really bad, and i can't find pain relief. I don't want to take medication unless it really works. Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis) and pain therapy? Our 7 year old cocker spaniel, Bismark, is plagued by what was determined last year to be degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis). The x-rays show that the cartlidge in his knees is almost completely gone. He has his good and his bad days, but lately, more bad than good. Originally, our vet prescribed him 30 days of an anti-inflamatory and told us to give him glucosamine on daily basis. He won't treat with pain meds for long periods, but the gloucasamine hasn't improved his mobility at all. Should I start over with a new vet (we've been taking our 4 dogs to our current vet for 9 years) or should I simply try to order the pain meds online (I think it was Rimadyl)? Do you have any suggestions for other forms of pain management?
What is a stronger drug for pain management? I am in sever chronic pain. I can not take anti-inflamitories / /NSAIDS for other medical reasons. I have tried vicodin, tylenol #3 and Darvoset. The first two do nothing, the Darvoset at its highest does just barely helps, but not enough. I am getting bounced around with refferals within my insurance plan and everyone I see says they can not treat the kind of pain I have, that I need a pain clinic. I went there and they said they will only do injections into the joints and that is all they do, so prescriptions or pain management. I feel like I am stuck. I have called all the dr's office, been to the urgent care and the pain dr, called my medical group and called my insurance - everyon tells me to talk to someone else!!!!!!!!! I am in so much pain and frustration. So, I was wondering if anyone knows anything else that might help me. The pain is from osteoarthritis in my hips.
Will a brace help relieve pain for osteoarthritis of the knee? I'm 25, I was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 19. I recently moved to a colder climate, and the pain is terrible sometimes. Most of the time it hurts the worst after being still for a while (sleeping, sitting, etc.), and then trying to move it. I often walk with a limp for a while until (if) it starts to feel better. This is a huge problem when I need to get things done. Can a brace help me for the times when the pain doesn't go away? I don't like having to be wheeled around in a wheelchair at the airport because the pain is too bad in my knee to walk after sitting on a plane for three hours, you know? BTW: I am going to see a doctor again, but couldn't get an appointment for another 6 weeks from now. ALSO: Is cracking my knee making it worse? Thanks for any advice!!

The doctor did a test where he pushed on different areas of my face....and i had alot of discomfort. he also thinks i have a mechanical problkem along with tendonitis. What are treatments for osteoarthritis for young people ( im only 16)? and does this sound like osteoarthrits, from my reading it sounds like a dead ringer but i want to stay open to everything. i have had a injury to my jaw ( i fainted while i was running and landed right on my jaw on the side i have the majority of the pain) and this was about 13 months ago so about 3 months before the pain started. I am on a lot of pain killers and due to see an orthopeadic surgeon for my hips. The pain killers are not taking all the pain away. However, I have alway excercised especially my legs. what is the best treatment for osteoarthritis in dogs? My 9 year old bulldog was given previcox for treatment of osteoarthritis. His symptons were improving but now have taken a turn for the worse. How do you reduce Arthritis Pain without Painkillers and Anti-Inflammatories ? About two months ago, under a lot of stress, I started to have pain on my hands. I suspect is Osteoarthritis because they hurt and get swolen at night but the pain almost disapear during the day. I hate to take pills and dangerous medications that end up hurting other organs. I heard of green tea, grapes, Vitamin C & D and also "Willow Bark/Boswellia", all of these appear to reduce inflammation. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
What does it mean to have Osteoarthritis AND scoliosis? I'm 26 and I just found out that I have Osteoarthritis and Scoliosis in my lower back. What exactly does this mean for me? My doctor was kind of vague with me with this diagnosis. I have a LOT of lower back pain and it hurts all the time and I don't know what to do. My doctor recommended physical therapy, but my work's health insurance doesn't cover it. I have tried Aleve, but it doesn't phase it.
Can osteoarthritis be misdiagnosed from an x ray? I am having the usual blood tests now as I suspect I may have other problems, but a recent foot x ray result came back showing 'early signs of osteoarthritis'. I am only 26 so naturally, I am worried. My GP does not seem too concerned, but the pain from the base of my big toe was terrible a few months ago (still not great but much better that I have been resting). Is it at all possible that this is a misdiagnosis? Could it be reactive arthritis instead?
Air Circulation Causes Swelling And Arthritis Pain? My mother-in-law lives with us and claims that air circulating in the room by a fan, or cooler temperatures with the air conditioning cause her stiffness and pain in her neck, arms, legs, wrists, and hands, and also swelling. She has Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Osteoarthritis. I'm trying to collect as many facts as I can, as my research so far has not indicated sensitivity to air circulation as being a symptom or side affect of any of these diseases, and I've never heard such in my life. Can someone shed a little more light on this subject for me? She claims that the pain can be caused by just having a fan in the room, even if it's not blowing directly on her. That's why I put the circulation part in there. If she has the fan blowing directly on her, that's a change in temperature, but if it's not blowing directly on her, she still complains that it causes her problems.
How do I get fit again while I have osteoarthritis? After suffering bad knee and hip pain for over 2 years and an athroscopy and lateral release on my right knee the NHS have finally diagnosed osteoarthritis in both knees, both hips, my right hand and various other parts of my body. Last week I had a gel injection (Duralone) in each knee and there has been an improvement in mobility and definitely much less pain. I have now been out on my bike for the last 4 days with no problems. I am in my late 40's and have a background of long distance running and cycling - I was doing around 300 miles a week on the bike until the problems began. I do not want to compete in the future but I do want to get into shape again. How do I put back on the muscle I've lost and lose the lard I've gained without doing myself further damage?
Does glucosamine work on osteoarthritis in both knees? Does glucosamine work on osteoarthritis in both knees? my mom who is 55 and is having pain in both knees. I feel awful for her and obviously I want to help her to feel better. Please advise or answer to my question. Thank you.
will i get in uni to train as a nurse if i have osteoarthritis? I have osteoarthritis in my left shoulder, will this stop me from getting in university to train as a nurse. I know you have an occupational health check before and your GP has to fill in your forms. I hope this will not stop me as i manage the condition myself with glucosamine and pain killers when needed.
What do you think of pain shots in the spine to manage pain? I have osteoarthritis, fibromalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. I have had two cervical spinal surgeries. I have 4 or 5 discs fused with metal plate and screws into spine. More surgery may not help. No promise of good results. Also low back pain.

How can you ease the pain of a "stiff knee"? My not-too elderly grandmother has recently been complaining of stiff joints in her knees, which makes it very uncomfortable to stand upright (i.e. getting up from the bed or a chair) or walk up down stairs. I am afraid she has osteoarthritis, and she has a scheduled doctor's appt. early July. But in the mean time, is there anything she can do to ease the pain or to keep her from getting worse? Thank you!
How can I be relieved of chronic pain due to trigger points in neck and back? Or, do I have a brain tumor? Any Doctors or Rheumotologists out there to help please? I have lupus which makes my osteoarthritis in my neck and back worse. My Doctor told me I have malignant knots, and I was given trigger point injections in neck and back. He accidently stuck the needle in my lung, and I ended up in the hospital. (No law suit). - I have also been in physical therapy, message therapy, do yoga, and lift weights, I have been on medication to reduce inflammation and relaxe muscles. Nothing has worked. I have had this pain for 3 years straight. - I developed this problem after my husband died of cancer. Also, my aunt of 48 died after being diagnosed with 19 brain tumors. I am the same age, and I pay Kaiser $600.00 a month out of my own pocket to keep my health benefits. My Dr. visits and med's also cost alot of money. I am going broke and my pain is a 12 on a scale of 1 - 10. - Is there a specific test I shoud ask for, or can I get rid of this problem and live a normal life. I get dizzy and see stars!
