Does diabetes cause pain? The left side near my stomach hurts. Is it my pancreas or my liver?

Public Comments

  1. It might be an appendix, I would go see a doctor if I could. a bad appendix is critically dangerous
  2. Diabetes does not cause pain such as you describe. Could be pancreatitis or enlargement of spleen. Could be an ulcer or any number of things. Could be a heart attack. Depending on how long you've had this symptom and other factors, you need to either make an appt to see your doctor or go to ER or immediate treatment center.
  3. I've had pain in my stomach when my sugar was too high. I ended up in ICU.
  4. What is Diabetes? It is a disease that affects the body's ability to produce or respond to insulin, a hormone that allows blood glucose (blood sugar) to enter the cells of the body and be used for energy. It results from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. In diabetes too much glucose stays in the blood. Elevated levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia) lead to spillage of glucose into the urine. As a result of elevated levels of blood glucose, two problems occur: body cells become starved for energy, and, over time, the high glucose levels can damage the nerves, eyes, kidneys, heart and blood vessels. Diabetes is not an infectious disease, like a cold or flu. You can’t "catch" it from someone else, and no one can catch it from you. Diabetes is a lifelong disease. Men with diabetes often have erectile dysfunction which can begin before the diagnosis of diabetes is made. It is therefore recommended that men with unexplained erectile dysfunction be screened for diabetes with a fasting blood glucose test. Symptoms of Diabetes? Symptoms include: excessive thirst excessive urination infections (thrush) extreme hunger unusual weight loss extreme fatigue irritability nausea vomiting sweet smelling breath Dont really know about the pain that you are discribing. You might want to go and get checked out by a doctor with more knowledge of diabetes and stomach ulcers and things like that.

  6. I'm a nurse and have never heard of Diabetes causing left sided stomach pain. If it was appendicitis or liver problem then the pain would be on the right side of the abd in most case. If it was the pancrease the pain is usually in the lower abd. But talk with your Dr., could be a stomach ulcer or spleen issue.
