I have osteoarthritis does anyone have ideas about coping with the pain?
I recently found out I have a hairline fracture of my tibia. I was not given anything for it. No pain killers at all. This Happened in Feburary and the pain is still there but to a lesser degree. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do

- If it has just started and their is no deformity, try to get your shoes changed with customised insoles followed by Quadriceps drill(Can be demonstrated by a Physiotherapist), and Cycling, If their is a deformity that is bending of Knee on medial and lateral side try V-VAS which is available in India now this will relive pressure from your knee joints. In severe cases you have to get your knees replaced.Consult a orthopaedic surgeon. For V-Vas and Custom Shoes, for locating a centre near your place contact. - Osteoarthritis can be helped with glucosamine/chondroiton as well. This has been researched and does help prevent further joint damage from OA in the long term. Having good supportive shoes makes a huge difference... You might want to consult with a rheumatologist about the OA just to get baseline studies and make sure how many places you have it and so you know over time if it gets worse, if there is progression and such. You can also take ibuprofen or naproxen over the counter for pain as needed. They are hard on the stomach so take food with it. This is commonly prescribed anyways for pain from basic arthrtiis Im not sure about the fracture... i think my understanding is that will heal in time with staying off of it and maybe some osrt of support. I assume having good cushioned shoes will help so that you reduce the impact on joints. Weight loss is a good thing if you weigh a lot. i know i do and it does make a difference swimming is great for OA and basicaly keep moving. for more info, check out www.arthritis.org and/or www.arthritisinsight.com
