Joint Pain

Does arthritis cause pain to radiate up your arm?

My daughter has this pain that starts in the palm of her hand, goes about a couple inches up her wrist, then stops and continues from about 4 inches above her elbow into her shoulder. X-rays and EMG were both normal. Part of the pain sounds like arthritis, but I've never heard of arthritis radiating up your arm before?

  1. I think it can do that. It can inflame a nerve that goes up the arm. I have arthritis in my hip that sometimes makes my whole leg ache. I'm not really an expert, but I'd think if it was arthritis it would show up on an x-ray. It could be a pinched nerve or something like that.
  2. i'm not sure but i think that it can.
  3. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. My pain is usually alongside the joint, so first thing that happens, the joint be it a finger, wrist, elbow will first swell, then go red, get very hot and then pain. Pain where even if a paper tissue accidental touched it, you would know! They have ruled out joint problems with x-ray and the nerves are not trapped. Therefore it could be inflammation from repetitive strain, if for example she is doing one chore repeatedly! I do not know what she does for a living but if for example she is a check out sales assistant, swipes food products at the local Mall, then that can cause the muscle in the arm to be inflamed and hence the pain. Best of Luck
  4. it might be a good idea to look at the neck sounds silly but a bulging disk is what caused my wife a lot of similar pain. I wish you and yours the best
  5. She needs to see a specialist to determine if she does indeed have arthritis. Most doctors will find nothing on the xrays. I went thru that since I was a child and now at 38 finally they can say for sure I have Arthritis. Now it is possible that she could have tendonistis. Did they check for that?
