My dad is in pain from osteoarthritis in his hand... what to do?

it feels swollen and tender but nothing can reduce the swelling... we tried nurofen gel, wristband, holding hand in air, massage... all no use.

  1. hope hes better soon
  2. An arthritis doctor is his best bet for advice. He could buy a wax machine, and that would give him relief, but he also needs a longer term type of treatment. Ecotin is a good product that could be bought over the counter; it works for me.But, again, a doctor is the best one to help him. Good luck!
  3. 'itis' means inflammation so really need to avoid prodding it or using it excessively for awhile, anti inflammitory from your doc to begin with then some daily exercises/rehab,some herbal remedies may help refer naturapath or homeopath....will never be totally cured but can manage the symptoms better
  4. my dad suffers from arthritis and went to boots and bought a woolly sheep (as he calls it) it is like an electric blanket and the heat eases his joints. obviously it is not a cure but may very well be worth a try.
  5. My father swore by Cider Vinegar. It is revolting to the taste buds but it worked.
